THE SCOOP ON SOOTHIES
Hi world!
I am a developmental and behavioral pediatrician living in Charlotte, NC. I am also a new mom; my daughter (Alisha, AKA “ALI)” is 9 months old and I learn something new from her everyday.
As a pediatrician, I know what anticipatory guidance I provide parents, and generally, what products are not recommended by the AAP. But, as a mom, I found the information and choices of things baby may benefit from completely overwhelming!
I’m going to do a series of different entrees covering items; I’ll link items I have found helpful, and ones that I have found NOT SO helpful. Hopefully this will help some new mamas make their baby registry & also find some products that may help with some challenges our own family faced.
For today, we're going to talk about PACIFIERS.
PACIFIERS
We received a bunch of pacifiers at our baby shower, and I also purchased some before Alisha (Ali) was born. We had glow in the dark one, ones that mimic mom’s nipple, different colors, etc. However, in the end, all she wanted to suck on was the regular ole’ pacifier that they give out at the hospital. Phillips Avent (@PhilipsAventNL) is the brand; they’re sold on amazon, cheap, and work great! They have a firmer one for children 👶 6+ months and Alisha is currently using that (she is teething and likes to bite down on it).
SOOTHIE PACIFIERS
You’ve probably seen kids in their stroller, content sucking away on a pacifier and holding their attached cute animal. I bought two different kinds; one where the animal detaches from the pacifier and one that does not. Do not get the one that cannot detach! It was a pain to clean; the pacifier needs to be sanitized in the dishwasher, and the plush toy goes in with her laundry. Also, if she drops it and you are a germaphobe (I am not but still I was concerned about this), you can switch out the pacifier and keep using the plush. Also as she got older and we transitioned to a firmer pacifier, you can just switch out the pacifier.
